Suzuki Jimny

A 4x4 isn’t for everyone and is usually associated with large vehicles suitable for negotiating rugged terrain.  The Suzuki Jimny, however, is a 4x4 with a difference.  It is small, compact and entirely suitable for drivers seeking a small car for urban driving.

Priced from £10,490 to £10,990, the Suzuki Jimny will do 0 to 60 mph in 14.1 seconds with a maximum speed of 84 mph and combined fuel consumption of 39.2 mpg.  The 1.3 litre 16v engine performs better at speeds higher than most regular driving conditions will permit and is available in both manual and automatic options.

The Suzuki Jimny holds four passengers, but space is limited and it wouldn’t make for a comfortable long journey transporting four adults.  Storage space in the boot is also limited so a longer distance would be more comfortable for only two adults, and the rear seat could be folded down for added luggage storage.

Two trim options are available.  The JLX version includes front electric windows, power-assisted steering, selectable four wheel drive, driver and front passenger airbags, CD with radio, electric mirrors, ABS and EBD.  The SZ4 trim has additional extras including air conditioning and partial leather trim.  It could be said that the four wheel drive elements of this car are more cosmetic than practical.  There are alloy wheels, a spare wheel on the rear tailgate and a roof rack, all of which have 4x4 associations.  The reality, however, is that the Suzuki Jimny isn’t really suitable for truly tough driving conditions
